# Call for Art

Crypto is a generational movement, and art is the universal language across cultures. We are curating a focused, carefully selected showcase of works that capture the essence of web3 culture. Memes are powerful, and we love memes. But, we prefer well-researched ideas that explore the deeper meanings, themes, and inspiration behind the movement. We seek artists who can transform these complex themes into fresh, symbolic, and imaginative expressions that will resonate across communities and endure beyond market cycles.

#### How We Operate

We are not a platform, but a single evolving collection of art. We pay artists up front and, in addition, give them a portion of the NFTs that enter the collection. We are looking for either existing art or 1/1 NFTs (to [vault](/cryptoart/the-project/web3/vaults.md) and back by a small 1/N edition), or we can structure a commission for new works specifically for the artist. We are particularly interested in artists that can include a process video with their work.

In terms of licensing, we operate with clarity and fairness. For existing artwork, artists keep copyright, but enter into an exclusive licensing agreement that prohibits dilution of the work. For structured commissions, copyrights are controlled by a foundation at Cryptoart.org.

{% hint style="info" %}
How backed editions work: We only acquire 1/1 art pieces. We issue a small (usually around 30) numbered edition of NFTs backed by the original art piece. Anyone that owns all of the remaining NFTs in the edition can redeem them for the original art piece.
{% endhint %}

#### Some ideas for artistic direction

We are looking for crypto thematic art and prefer metaphors, symbolism, and storytelling over simple visuals like coins, logos, or chains. Those motifs aren't prohibited, but we value artwork that goes deeper through allegory, abstraction, cultural remixing, and narrative. Below are some ideas as a creative spark. This list is not intended to be comprehensive.
